Thru this book I’ve documented my tour of duty in Vietnam. When taking these photos
in 1968 I dreamed that some day I could share my experience.
This book is focused at and around the
China Beach USO Rest and Relaxation Center,
Republic of South Vietnam June 1968., where I was
stationed as a US Navy Seabee from March of 1968 to April of 1969.
To Millions of American Viewers, China Beach was merely the backdrop for a hit TV show.
But it was dead real to thousands of GIs, offering them a rare respite from battle.
The Vietcong used the place as a terrorist base. Later, it launched the boat people,
perpetuating the tragedy of the Vietnam War for a new generation.
I’ll try to show the readers what it was like to serve in the military during this time and place.
